Theatre pay talks off
PA- Auckland Theatrical production workers' award talks, one of the last of the 1981-82 round, collapsed on Tuesday after six months of negotiations. The major unresolved issues were actor and production worker relativity, wage rates, and conditions of employment. Production workers seeking a pay rise include all stage managers, carpenters,
technicians, and wardrobe staff employed in New Zealand's six community theatres. Speaking after the negotia- . tions broke down in Wellington, the national president of Actors’ Equity, Mr John McDavitt, said the wages and conditons offered by the employers bore more relation to a director's fantasy play than to a world of 16 per cent inflation.
