Decisive basketball win
. Church College (Hamilton) won the final of the New Zealand secondary schoolgirl’s basketball championship at Cowles Stadium last evening with a decisive victory over Ta.uranga's Otumoetai College. 42-24. Church played casually for the opening 12 minutes, but its tight defence gave it the lead at halftime. 23-11. Otumoetai closed the gap with determined play in the second. half, but the bigger Church girls again took control
in what was a subdued final. Sandra Wilkinson, who was considered the tournament s most valuable player, led many fine moves for Church and Raima Hippolite drove strongly and scored 10 points. The petite, Alice Hammond, worked courageously for Otumoetai and scored 10 points. Porirua's' Mana College, withstood a late rally from the Christchurch champion, Rangi Ruru, to take third place, 39-38.
