M.P. volunteers to be astronaut
PA Wellington Helensville member of Parliament, Mr D. M. Jones, wants to be New Zealand’s first astronaut. The slight, balding National Party back-bencher, known as an anti-pornogra-phy campaigner, told Parliament last evening that the United States should be urged to do the same as the
Soviet Union and give its allies the chance to contribute to the astronaut progamme. Mr Jones made it clear to laughing members of Parliament that he would be a willing volunteer. There would be little left of the world by 2025 and the development of space was the only answer; he said during the Budget debate.
