Bishop from Chile
Sir,—Bishop Morrison, of Chile, seems to be representing his congregation well in his support of the Chilean coup. The Anglican Church in Chile is based within the small community of English descent, which moved into Chile after its independence from Spain. The English, not the Chileans, made a fortune from Chile’s nitrates with little regard for
the miners who produced it. Today the small English community is well represented in business and landowning circles and it is to its shame that it, unlike a portion of its counterpart in Argentina, has preferred to ignore the human rights violations upon which its privileged position depends. — Yours, etc..
