Gareth Cotton appeal passes target
PA Invercargill Donations. yesterday passed the $15,000 target for an appeal to help send Gareth Cotton, aged five, to Australia for a bone marrow transplant. The appeal, launched by the Mataura Lions Club on August 12, has raised $15,366. The boy, who has leukaemia, will travel to Sydney early next month for surgery and will be accompanied by his parents, two brothers, and one sister. The. Ward, whose .bank is acting as collection agency for the appeal, said that it would remain open until the end of the month. Among the $4500 contributed yesterday was $2020 from ’ the Mataura branch of the Meat Workers’ ' Union. When told of the appeal total last evening, Gareth’s father, Mr David Cotton, said, “I am overjoyed and very grateful'for Gareth.” He said that the $15,000, with the $20,000 grant from the Social Welfare Department would pay for most of the family’s expenses.
