Orana’s tigers roam anew

The tigers at Orana Park have found firm friends in Mr and Mrs H. Brouwer, of Halswell. The couple have provided them with a new home at the park. It will be officially opened on Saturday at 11 a.m., when Mr and Mrs Brouwer will unveil a plaque and release the three tigers into the new display area. Mr and Mrs Brouwer have a special affection for one of the tigers, called Tuan, which they adopted al birth in Mav. 1980. Mrs Brouwer said that she and Mr Brouwer had taken a keen interest in the zoo since they had come to Christchurch three years ago. They visited it most weekends and sometimes as many as three times a week, she said. However, until she went to Orana Park. Mrs Brouwer had' not approved of zoos. "I did not like to see the animals caged up. but I was very impressed with Orana Park. I thought it was different," she said.
