Plunket Society book
Sir,—As president of the New Zealand Plunket Society, I find the review by Alison Neale of “A Fence at the Top” disappointing. She misinterr preted the intention of the author to report on the first 75 years of the society. She. talks of Plunket "arousing strong feelings ranging from gratitude and adoration, to resentment and anger." Every user of
Plunket does so voluntarily and receives help and advice free — hardly a basis for "resentment and anger.” To the criticism of the book for not giving a fuller account of Sir Truby King and his wife I recommend “Truby King the Man,” by Mary King; on family relationships, the book by Dr Neil Begg, “A Child and His Family." This is not a nursing review of child rearing; it records the first 75 years of a society that has contributed more to the health and wellbeing of New Zealand families than any other single organisation. — Yours, etc., MYRA GRAHAM.
