Shock hockey defeat
NZPA Hong Kong New Zealand suffered a shock 0-2 defeat at the hands of Canada in a friendly warm-up. game for the Junior World Cup hockey championships, in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. The tearn’s manager, Ross Gillespie, said from the Malaysian. capital that the New Zealanders had played
poorly “and were probably lucky to get away with a 2-0 loss.” He said the New Zealanders had been particularly vulnerable in defence against a team regarded as among the weakest of the 11 in Kuala Lumpur for the championships, beginning on Saturday. The Canadians were beaten, 4-3, by Malaysia on Monday.
