1500 sign petition
About 1500 Christchurch people have signed a petition calling for the reinstatement of the Student Community Assistance Programme. The president of the Students' Association at the University of Canterbury. Mr Steven Ferguson, has said that the association would ask the member of Parliament for St Albans, Mr D. F. Caygill. to table the petition in Parliament.
■ The programme was scrapped as part of the Government's cost-cutting measures.
