The day in Parliament
PA Wellington Parliament rose at 2.17 a m. yesterday after a latenight sitting on Thursday which passed four bills authorising provisions of the Budget.
They were the Customs Act Amendment Bill, the Transport Amendment Bill (No. 3). and the Stamps and Cheque Duties Amendment Bill, and the Superannuation Schemes Amendment Bill.
All four bills were passed through all their stages before the House rose.
When the House sat again at 9.30 a.m. the report of the Wanganui Computer Centre Privacy Commissioner was tabled, and members tabled eight notices of motion.
Ministers answered 17 questions. The petitions of Ivy Victoria Kench and 20.500 others, and of Catherine Anne Massey. Frederick Tom Massey. Merrill Grayburn and 2523 others, asking the Government to protest at brutality in the Filipino dog meat trade, were referred back from the Petitions Committee with a recommendation for the Government's consideration.
The petition of Anthony Fulton Reid praying for relief was referred back, without recommendation.
The Children and Young Persons Amendment Bill was reported back from the Health and Social Welfare Select Committee and set down for a second reading.
The Education Amend ment Bill (No. 3) was discharged.
The Wild Animal Control Amendment Bill, the Arbitration (Foreign Agreements and Awards) Bill, and the Land Transfer Amendment Bill were given second readings.
The House rose at 1 p.m
