Cigarette ban irks
NZPA Utrecht A no-smoking rule at the Dutch Open golf championship beginning in Utrecht today has inflamed many competitors who like to puff as they play. A long dry spell has forced organisers to stop players and spectators lighting up for fear of fire. “It's a body blow." said a Briton. Bill Longmuir. who
was beaten by the West German. Bernard Langer, in a play-off for the German Open last Sunday. “I averaged one cigarette a hole in Germany when the pressure came on in the last round. Surely the players could have been excused’the ban and water and sand buckets provided at strategic points." Longmuir said.
