Placings uncertain in ‘Press’ chess
Although ' Christchurch Boys’ High School has been the dominant team in the A grade of this year’s chess tournament sponsored by “The Press,” the competition for the other three qualifying places remains wide open. Burnside moved into contention with an .excellent win against Mairehau in the fifth round and improved to second, a half point ahead of Shirley and Mairehau. Papanui and Christ’s College still retain chances if they win their final two preliminary rounds. ' Fifth-round results:
