. England decisively beat Pakistan for the second time in four days when .it won the one-day cricket international by 73 runs at Old Trafford yesterday. England, the seven-wicket winner of last Saturday’s one-day match at Nottingham, piled up eight for 295 in its quota' of 55 overs and dismissed Pakistan for 222 in 49.4 overs.
Pakistan, weakened by the absence through injury of the batsman, Javed'.Miandad, and the fast medium bowler, Sarfraz Nawaz, was sent reeling by scintillating batting from lan Botham and Mike Gatting. . ' . ' Botham, . who struck a thunderous 49, including four sixes, and Gatting, the top scorer on 76, lifted the scoring rate to a peak by sharing a fourth-wicket partnership of 84 in' ll overs.
England pressed home its advantage by reducing Pakistan to 100,' for four in its first 25 overs, including the important wickets of Zaheer Abbas .and / Majid Khan cheaply; ■
