Crossing death at Kaiapoi
A young Geraldine man and his dog were killed when a Holden utility and a southbound goods train collided on a level-crossing in Williams Street, Kaiapoi, about 3 a.m. yesterday. He was ■ Gregory John Blair, aged 20, who had been living at Kaiapoi. A police spokesman said it appeared that the warning signals at the crossing had been working. The utility was mangled in the ■ accident, which delayed the goods tra’in for about two hours. The train eventually had to be towed to Christchurch because of minor damage to braking equipment.
