Bastion Point stalemate
PA Wellington Stalemate has been reached over the disputed land at Bastion Point with the Government unable to find a satisfactory tenderer for a proposed housing development there. It is a situation that a Bastion Point protest tedder, the Rev. Terry Dibble, regards with some satisfaction. “We set out to stop the sate of the land and so far we have done that,” he said in Wellington yesterday. The 1.66 hectares of Housing Corporation land which the Government wants to sell to private interests is Maori land and should stay that way, the protesters say.
