Building protected

PA Auckland The Historic Places Trust has decided to put a protection notice on the old Bank of New Zealand building in Queen Street, Auckland, the first time its power to do so under a 1980 act of Parliament has been used. Once the notice is ratified by the Minister of Internal Affairs and served on the Auckland City Council and the building's owner, the building cannot be demolished. altered, or extended in any way. The trust was concerned about plans for development mentioned by the new owner, the Bank of New Zealand Officers' Provident Association, which bought the building for $3 million in May.
