Agents beat cold

Travel editor Travel agents from the warmer climes of Australia shook the mothballs from their jerseys and donned sturdy boots yesterday for tours through inland Canterbury. Many of the agents, who are in Christchurch this week for the annual convention of the Australian Federation of Travel Agents, were taken to Methven in a bus convoy for a day of outdoor activities.

The crisp air did not deter some of the hardier souls from taking jet boat trips on the Rakaia River, playing golf, or visiting the Mount Hutt ski-field. Other activities included sheep dog trials, shearing displays, and demonstrations of arts and crafts. The conference will continue today with sessions on automation, training, and trade practices.
