Maori rugby team
PA ■ Oamaru Three newcomers have been named in the New Zealand; Maoris rugby team which will play matches against North Otago and Canterbury this week. They are David Flavell, the hard-running King Country wing, Scott Crichton, the immensely strong Wellington prop forward, and Carl Baker, a young but extremely talented WairarapaBush No. 8. The team was announced in Oamaru last evening after the Prince of Wales Cup match. Percy Erceg, the Maoris coach and convener of selectors, said that the actual side to play North Otago tomorrow, would not be named until after a practice session this morning.
The team consists of 12 (layers from the Southern
Maoris region, eight from the northern area, and Robert Kururangi, the former All Black wing, who was not available for the game yesterday. There are eight past dr present All Blacks in the team, which will be captained by Paul Quinn (Wellington).
But other All Blacks including Steven Pokere, Fred Woodman and Eddie Dunn will almost certainly be in the side for Wales.
