Wayne Smith dropped
The Canterbury rugby selector, Alex Wyllie, has taken the- bold step of dropping Wayne Smith, for the match against New Zealand Maoris, at Lancaster Park on Saturday. < . Smith’s place at first fiveeighths has gone to his Belfast partner, and fellow All Black, Kieran Keane. Four other changes, plus possibly a fifth, have been made in the team which lost to Mid-Canterbury.
John Ashworth, who is fit again, returns to the front row and Gwyn Williams replaces the New Zealand Junior, John Mills, as the hooker. Kerry Flood has given way to Jock Hobbs as. the open side flanker and Bill Anderson, available again after an injury, is on one wing. The, other wing will be either'Garry Hooper, who is still having trouble with a' leg injury, or Ross Gibson,
who took Hooper’s place against Mid-Canterbury. The team for Saturday is: Robbie Deans, Anderson, Munro, Hooper or Gibson; Warwick Taylor, Keane: Bruce Deans:- John Masefield: Don Hayes (captain). Kerry Mitchell, Albert Anderson, Hobbs. Ashworth, Williams, Murray Davie. Reserves: Alan Lindsay, Smith, Hansen; Mike Franson, Flood, Mills.
