Genepool bull sale

PA Timaru All 50 entries for the Genepool unreserved Hereford bull sale at the Temuka saleyards were sold, for a total of $79,400. Genepool is a South Island performance-record-ing group, with 50 contributing herds from Marlborough to Southland. The total sale average was $l5BB, compared with last year’s total of $l9ll. The lower average follows the general downward trend in the beef industry this year.

The top price was $7400 paid for a 2 L z-year bull bred by R. S. A. Chaffey (Christchurch). The bull was bought by G. Robertson (Blackmount) on behalf of the Southland Genepool minigroup. A 2 b z-year bull bred by the late A. B. Robinson (Culverden), sold for $5OOO, a 20month bull from W. A. Speight (Manapouri) made $4600, and Mr Chaffey sold another bull for $4200. In the lower range, bulls sold from $6OO to $2500.
