Patient receives written apology
Pa Wellington A blind woman. Mrs Marjorie Moir, aged 74. who was discharged from Wellington Hospital when she had a broken pelvis, has received an apology from the hospital's superintendent, Mr Richard Laurenson.
. Mr Laurenson recently visited Mrs Moir in Hutt Hospital where she has been for the last six weeks recovering from an assault outside her home by two youths.
Mrs Moir has now received a written apology from Mr Laurenson together with an explanation of why she was discharged from Wellington Hospital so soon after the attack.
"We were very sorry indeed that the crack fracture in the pelvis was missed when you were first examined in Wellington Hospital. particularly after such a harrowing experience of being assaulted in your home,” the letter said.
"These injuries can easily be missed except by very experienced doctors, but fortunately it will have no effect on the ultimate outcome of treatment.
"The medical and nursing staff were very concerned, and genuinely felt at the time that the best thing for you was to go home to the care of your son," the letter said.
