Police quiz 20 in murder hunt
More than 20 people with bad records of violent crime have been interviewed by detectives who are investigatihg the killing of Mr Alfred Anderson.
These people have been questioned in detail about their activities around the time of the murder, and their stories have been checked. Extra detectives have been assigned to the homicide inquiry team to cope with the increased workload. It is now almost two weeks since Mr Anderson, aged 64. was found dead in the. lounge of his flat at the corner of Hastings Street and Waltham Road, with throat and head wounds inflicted by a sharp instrument.
The officer in charge of the inquiry. Detective Inspector R. G. McMeeking. appeared on the “Mainland Touch” television programme last evening to appeal yet'again for help from the public to find the murderer.
More than 50 people have already come forward. The main lead in the search for the killer is still information from a young woman, who said that she heard a door slam, and a tall, slim man running from the vicinity of Mr Anderson’s flat between 12.30 a.m. and 12.45 a.m. on the night of the murder. The man wore a jacket, feathered at the waist, with a ight-coloured band around the left sleeve.
