Rail units accepted
PA Wellington The Railways Corporation yesterday accepted the first of the Hungarian commuter rail units - seven months after the first shipment arrived at Wellington.
The acceptance of the first two sets of the Ganz-Mavag units came after successful track trials in Wellington, on Tuesday night.
The Railways earlier had refused to accept the first units because of problems with heating systems, which were too hot.
This problem is believed to have been overcome and the Railways expects to accept delivery of more units every 10 days. The corporation's district traffic manager, Mr Don Tunnicliffe. said yesterday that the first of the new trains would enter service on the suburban rail network on Monday.
