New Parklands wing
Patients at the Parklands Private Hospital in Papanui Road had a special day yesterday, with the opening of the hospital’s 34-bed Tauranga wing. A celebration lunch, an open afternoon for the public to inspect the new wing, and a party for the builders and contractors who worked on the project marked the opening.
Many of the 58 patients had a chance to talk to the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) who toured the hospital before officially opening the new wing.
In his address, to 80 guests, Mr Muldoon congratulated the hospital for building the privately funded $650,000 wing, and for the standard of its patient-care facilities. He praised tfie staff facilities, the hospital’s training scheme, and its in-service education programme. Parklands Hospital, which specialises in nursing longstay elderly ? patients, was opened in 1973. Work started on the new wing in 1975, but was delayed for several years because of financial problems. The new wing
houses a hydro-therapy pool, a physiotherapy room, staff facilities, and intensive-care facilities.
