New electoral boundaries before March
PA Wellington New electoral boundaries would be drawn up before March next year, the Government announced yesterday. The Minister of Justice (Mr McLay) said the boundaries would be re-defined “in light of the statistical information arising from the 1981 census and the 1982 Maori roll option exercise," The Representation Commission would convene on September 1 and have six months to do the job. he said. In that time the commission would take preliminary submissions from political
parties and any Independent members of Parliament, as well as study the information provided by the Government Statistician. Provisional new boundaries would be published on September 21, and objections to these would have to be lodged by October 21. Coun-ter-objections would then have to be lodged by November 9. The Representation Commission comprises relevant senior public servants, including the Government Statistician, and observers from the National and Labour parties.
