Tebaldi wins N.S.W. Oaks
The Christchurch-bred Tebaldi ran out a decisive winner in the $20,000 final of the New South Wales Oaks at Harold Park last Friday. Starting a 3/1 chance, she was always prominent and won handily by three metres from the outsider, Lachlan Missie, with two metres to the favourite, Ainsley Dillon, after rating 2min 7.8 s for the mobile 2350 m, well outside her time in a qualifying heat earlier in the week. '
Tebaldi was bred in Christchurch by his initial trainer, Maurice Holmes, and Mr Bernard Wilks, who sold him to a company of the Sydney entrepreneur, Mr Michael Edgley, with, the Yaldhurst trainer, Kevin Ryder acting as agent. Tebaldi showed outstand-
ing form in Western Australia before being transferred, to Sydney earlier this season. She has had 13 starts
in New South Wales from seven wins and four placings. Six of her successes have been at Harold Park.
Tebaldi has been trained and driven by Ross Olivieri, a former Western Australian tennis professional.
She is by Nardin’s Byrd from the Bachelor Hanover mare, Mimi, and is a halfsister to Kobbe, a winner in North America.
Mighty Antrim, also' by Nardin’s Byrd, races in the same interests, as Tebaldi. She won her heat of the Oaks in fast time, but failed when confidently supported, in the final, finishing seventh.
