Full-time promoter for Canty soccer?
Canterbury soccer may use the approximately $30,000 - profit from the recent Watford-New Zealand “international” in Christchurch to hire a full-time promotions officer. The chairman of the Canterbury Football Association, Mr Alan Fraser, said last evening that he thought: most of the money,, the exact amount of which had not been determined, would be used to boost awareness of the sport in Canterbury. Although plans for a full-time promotions worker were only being talked about at present, the C.F.A. would be meeting soon to finalise ideas. ; “I would like to see a full-time promotions executive officer in Canterbury,” he said. “Not only for getting future teams here but for promoting the game — juniors, seniors, women, whatever.”
Meanwhile, English Park will be used for only one type of top-
level soccer on any week-end for the rest of the season, the C.F.A. has decided.
If a Rothmans league match involving • Christchurch Mogal United is scheduled for a particular week, Hertz regional league games would be played elsewhere, possibly at Queen Elizabeth II Park No. 2 ground. Mr Fraser said. This was to avoid over use of the 'surface at English Park, which has been a target of criticism this year. The ground may also be improved. “we will be looking between now/and the end of the season at irrigation and up-grading / the surface," Mr. Fraser said.
"We will have to meet the Christchurch City Council again of course, because it is going to be a costly exercise." The C.F.A. has also eoriipleted arrangements to have the Can terbury women's soccer assbcia tion as an affiliate.
