New conditions for rugby cup
In future an automatic six points will be deducted from a senior rugby team’s points in “The Press Cup” competition if it has a player ordered .offFor a player sent to the “sin . bin,” three points will immedi- . ately be lost. ■ . These added ■ conditions were sought by .the, referees who ■ award the points each week. They were outlined by the referees' delegate. Mr A. K. Mather, to last evening's meeting of the C.R.F.U.S management committee. He said that the referee felt some uniformity was needed in cases were players had to be disciplined. Mr 'Mike Fitzgibbon and Mr Graham Barrett were named as the two referees who will go to Brisbane next month on the annual inter-change between
Canterbury and Queensland referees. ■?■/;• . The committee decided to lend its’ support to a South Island primary schools’’ tournament, which the Southland union plans ’ to institute next season. Two teams from Canterbury are expected to attend and the C.R.F.U. will give around $l5OO towards the expenses. It is hoped that the tournament will become an annual event and Christchurch has been proposed as the 1985 venue... There will be no senior rugby on. Saturday, July 3. the day Canterbury plays New Zealand Maoris at Lancaster Park. The round that week-end will •be played the following day. Peter Soochoon, a Sydenham second grade player ordered off ' last Saturday for a dangerous tackle, was suspended for one week.
