Falling log kills man
A Christchurch man died in hospital yesterday from injuries suffered when a falling log struck him as he arid another man were logging ' near Cheviot on Monday. He was Francis Joseph Ratahi,aged 22, of Madras Street. The Cheviot police said Mr Ratahi and another man had been logging on the Gore Bay Road on Monday afternoon. While they were working on a log on the ground another log fell without warning and “skittled” both 'men.
Mr Ratahi’s companion suffered only minor bruising, but Mr Ratahi was seriously injured. The police and the Labour Department are investigating the incident.
