Climbers killed on Mt Ruapehu
PA Wellington Two Hurst Valley trampers were found dead on Mount Ruapehu yesterday. They were Gary Sinclair, aged 28, of Alicetown, a. wheel alignment operator: and David Robbie, , aged 26, of Upper Hutt, a Post Office storeman. Mr Robbie was married with two young children. The police, who found the men’s bodies, believed that they had fallen down a cliff. The bodies were found below the Girdlestone Peak, at 2300 metres',’ on the southern side of Ruapehu. The area was “very steep and very icy,” the police said.
The men, who had been friends for 15 years, were in full climbing gear.
