Tree salvage progress

The salvage by N.Z. Forest Products,. Ltd, of trees damaged by wind on Good Friday is progressing well, NZFP’s managing director (Mr D.. O. Walker) announced. Mr Walker said that at least a fifth of the trees damaged in the company’s forest had" already been salvaged, .'and it was expected that most of the remaining

salvage work would be completed within the next two to three months. Logging crews had been diverted to the salvage operation, and the company is co-operating with the Forest Service and also private forestry companies to. ensure maximum utilisation of the wood in production of sawn

timber and wood pulp at Kinleith. Although the storm created damage of a widespread nature in the central North island pine forests. Mr Walker said that the effect on NZFP operations would be minimal through the effective salvage and wood utilisation which was put in hand immediately.
