Plant for energy projects
A Ceramco subsidiary, Loadlift Eauipment, Ltd. has increased its sales to rhajor Northland energy projects by §300,000, with 'the supply of machinery to a unique worker consortium engaged on the Auckland-Whangarei gas and oil pipeline. Loadlift, which had already won orders for $2.6M worth of cranes for the Mardsen Point refinery expansions, has sold three Kobelco hydraulic excavators to employees of Perry Dines,
Ltd. the major pipelie contractor. The worker consortium is contracting the equipment back to Perry Dines in what is believed to be a form of worker participation unique in New Zealand. A spokesman for. the consortium (Mr M. Grey) said that the machines gave the employees a stake in both the company and in one of the country's major energy projects. Mr Grey said the machines were bought by the consor-
tium because Perry Dines required extra excavator capacity. He said that although the employer had traditionally used another make, the consortium had chosen the Japanese Kobelco excavators. Only the consortium’s machines were on site for the start of the multi-million dollar project on May 17, he said. The machines will only be driven by employees of Perry Dines who are recognised operators of such machinery.
