South Ward election
Sir—Quinton Manson (May 27) now suggests that I am attempting to use Social Credit policy out of context to justify my contention that the South Ward election was a waste of money. But re-reading the
green paper “You and Your Environment,” which included L. W. Hunter among the 13 Social Crediter co-authors, makes me feel certain that, my previous comments were fully justified. Social Credit now says the cost of the present Christchurch recycling scheme is excessive. Yet one of their basic principles said; “(IX) That protection of the environment must dominate economics; whatever is physically possible and desirable must be. . made financially possible." ‘ Now Richard Bach says that recycling was never an issue, the concern was that the representative should live in the area. I believe that 90 per cent of the ratepayers in Christchurch feel that the by-election was a waste of rate money.— Yours, etc., PATRICK NEARY. May 27, 1982.
