Tavern site has history
Another plaque commemorating historical sites at Lyttelton was unveiled yesterday. The laest plaque, on an outside wall of the Canterbury Tavern, Norwich Quay, shows the site where the first edition of Canterbury’s first newspaper, the “Lyttelton Times," was printed. The plaque says that in a shed on the site where the tavern now stands, John Ingram Shrimpton printed the first edition of the "Lyttelton Times" on January 11, 1851. This plaque is part of a series being placed on historical sites about the town by the Lyttelton Historical Museum Society.
