Speculation criticised
Incorrect speculative comment in the news media about the future of New Zealand Farmers co-opera-tive Association of Canterbury, Ltd, was not helping the company, said the company’s managing director (Mr J. B. Buxton), in a reference to the many rumours that have been about for many months. Mr Buxton said the posi-
tion was that the Examiner had written to parties which had made formal application and had also written to him as managing director, stating a qualified view, and inviting Farmer’s to make any comment on that view. “As we have pointed out previously, this company is considering’ future options which ensure not only the so called ‘public interest’ but
also quite emphatically the future of our business and continuing job prospects for our staff,” Mr Buxton said. “Our endeavours to achieve a realistic solution is not helped by speculative comment which is factually incorrect nor by statements from those who rely upon constraints of the Statute Book in the hope of achieving commercial advantage,” he said.
