Hobart air link to be halved
Christchurch’s midweek air link with Tasmania will be cancelled from June 23 until the beginning of the summer season.
TAA, which took over the Wednesday flight from Ansett in March this year, has decided to discontinue the service during the offseason because of poor bookings. The airline will continue to provide Saturday flights and will restore the midweek service from December 15 to March 30 next year to cater for summer demand. TAA’s sales manager in New Zealand (Mr 0. Coughlan) said that the change was a temporary timetable adjustment and
that the airline would continue to accept bookings for the Wednesday flight during the summer season.
“We will use this period to vigorously market the midweek service as well as continuing Saturday flights to stimulate demand over the summer tourist season,” he said. TAA has also sought to provide the Christchurch to Hobart service as a TAA designated flight from July - all flights on the route have had a Qantas designation. “The introduction of a TAA designation on the service will help the airline tb market the route around the world as an independent operator,” Mr Coughlan said.
