General forecast The depression east of the South Island should remain slow-moving. A fresh Westerly airstream should persist over the North Island, turning south-west later, accompanied by scattered showers in most places but mainly fine weather in the east and about Cook Strait. A southerly change should spread on to Wellington and southern Wairarapa late - in the day with scattered showers. In the South Island, scattered rain should persist from Canterbury to Southland. Some showers are expected in the west but with some bright intervals developing. In Marlborough and
Nelson, mainly fine at first but scattered showers developing by evening. District forecasts: Canterbury: Brighter intervals gradually developing inland; southerlies fresh at times about the coast but lighter elsewhere.
