Swiss training for M.E.D. man
A Christchurch Municipal Electricity' Department engineer’s expertise in revenue metering might earn him a training course in Switzerland. The City Council’s public utilities committee agreed yesterday with M.E.D. officers that Mr J. A. Barrett, the test engineer, should attend the course run in English by Landis and Gyr. the Swiss company that makes the test equipment. Cr A. J. Graham asked if e Swiss course was neces-
sary. It would cost the council about $4BOO for travel and hotel expenses, in June and July. The ■ M.E.D.'s general manager, Mr J. H. Donald, said that a high level of metering accuracy was necessary in a $6O million business. The course tuition would be free. Mr Barrett has been employed by the M.E.D. for 33 years, since he was 16, and has worked in the test section since 1959.
