Bombardment denied
An Indonesian Army spokesman has denied foreign press reports that 3000 people were killed in a bombardment against separatist rebels in the province of Irian Jaya, bordering Papua New Guinea, last month. “The reports are groundless and untrue. The situation in . Irian is now peaceful and remnants of the O.P.M. (Free Papua Movement) have practically been paralysed. Why should there be bombardment?” he asked. — Jakarta.
