Remains reburied

The remains of 12 people who were originally interred in the Avonhead cemetry in Withells Road were reburied on Friday. The Avonhead cemetery, an area slightly less than- a quarter of an acre, will be sold as a residential section. The remains were of people who were buried more than 100 years ago in the now disused cemetery. They were exhumed under a special Act of Parliament. Excavation work at the cemetery was done by a team of archaeologists from the Canterbury Museum.
