Drawings, etchings by Peter Ransom
“Friends Boxed In.” Exhibition of drawings and etchings by Peter Ransom, at the Gingkgo Gallery until April 23. Reviewed by David Brokenshire. It is only 11 months since Peter Ransom’s last exhibition at the Gingkgo Gallery but the work displayed shows a great leap forward. Drawings, pen-and-wash drawings, and etchings are exhibited. Prices modestly range from $45 to $95. For me, the introduction of colour in the pen-and-wash drawings is the biggest advance. It is very restrained
in its use but carries considerable emotional impact. The drawings’ are larger than before and this has allowed an admirable breadth of treatment. No. 16. "Karen." in pen and wash, is possibly the finest work on show.' Karen is shown seated facing away but with the use of two mirrors a wonderful portrait in the round is established. In all the work the draughtsmanship is of a high order but over all such significant progress since the last exhibition makes me look forward with anticipation to the next one.
