Fruit stall

Sir.-How regrettable it is to have to lose the elegant, popular fruit stall of Mr Ellis. With the large tender of Mr and Mrs Chick it is debatable if they can offer the same good service, especially tourist-wise, so it would appear that eventually the poor old Square will be bereft of one of its colourful items. What is - next on the council agenda for demolition.

destruction or just plain messing about with ratepayers' money? — Yours, etc.. ‘ M. McKAY. March 18, 1982.

Sir.—We were very sorry that Mr Ellis has been ousted from his fruit stall site in the Square; his prices were very reasonable and his fruit always sound. It will be easy for the higher tenderers to ' pay the increased rental for the site. They just have to increase their prices. So we. the buying public, will once again be’ the losers. 1 believe that one of the reasons for Mr Ellis’s lover tender was so that’he could keep his prices lower. Why should he sutler for iliat?Yours. etc.'. MISS JEAN LEDSON. ■ March 18. 1982.
