Nurses’ conference

About 150 delegates of the New Zealand Nurses' Association will meet at the Christchurch Town Hall from April 14 to 16 for their annual conference. The conference will discuss 47 remits including several on maternal and infant health. One remit calls for a programme to help with early detection and education of mothers who may be potential child abusers.

Recent public awareness and publicity highlighting stress problems for nurses have prompted a remit calling for three days of “stress leave" a year. Another remit asks that education programmes on methods for dealing with stress be available to nurses. Several other remits call for revision of gradings, salary allowances, in-service training, pay scales, and length of service.
