Chinese water polo visit
The Chinese water polo team will make a flying visit to Christchurch this weekend to play two internationals against New Zealand at Queen Elizabeth II Park. The Chinese team is at present in Australia and will arrive from Sydney tomorrow afternoon. It will play the first match against New Zealand at 3 p.m. on Saturday, and the second on Sunday at 1.30 p.m. The team
leaves for home early on Sunday evening. Confirmation of the matches was received by the New • Zealand water polo board in a telex earlier this month. The invitation to the Chinese was issued by the secretary of the water polo board, Mr P. Walls, several weeks ago, after it was learned the Chinese would be in Australia. The Chinese party of 18 will be given a Mayoral
reception at the civic offices tomorrow evening. The team is the second Chinese aquatic party to visit New Zealand since the country was readmitted to F.I.N.A. (the international governing body of swimming, diving, water polo and synchronised swimming) two years ago. A team of Chinese swimmers and divers competed in the New Zealand Games in January last year.
