The top Burnham bowler, Paul Greedy, took his wicket tally for the season to 72 with a hat-trick against Leeston on the first day of the final round of the Ellesmere cricket competition. Greedy’s effort helped set his team up for a first innings lead against Leeston at Bumham.
Meanwhile, at Irwell, the home captain. Ron Saunders, placed his team in a commanding position against Tai Tapu with an unbeaten century. Later in the day Irwell's Brian Harkess captured all six wickets to fall in Tai Tapu's innings in a-20-over spell.
