Brazilian ‘Nudity’
The Canterbury Film Society should do well next week with a film entitled “All Nudity Shall be Punished" This Brazilian film tells of Herculanol a newly-widowed, bourgeois businessman and his teen-age son who have embraced celibacy ps a way of life. But Geni, a prostitute with a heart of gold, casts her spell and proceeds to wreak havoc.. The director, Arnaldo Jabor, seems fascinated by the hypocrisy of Brazilian society which demands propriety at all costs and can not confront disorder or truth even if lives depend on
it. It is not hard to see how this film could also be taken as a comment on Brazil’s backward-looking, right-wing military regimes. The film has been described as being romantic, comic, desperate, tragic and realistic. The supporting short is “Werner Herzog Eats His Shoe." The society’s weekly screenings are held at University Room Al, Ham, at 8 p.m., Tuesdays; and the Museum Theatre, at 7.30 p.m., , Wednesdays. The annual’ subscription is $2l (students with 1.D., $18) and ,$2.50 for single admission.
