Chch schools win prizes

Two Christchurch schools have taken first and second prizes in an environmental competition for South Island schools north of Waimate. The competition, judged on the pupils’ contribution to the environment and the school grounds, is run by the Lions Clubs in the area and the New Zealand Nurserymen’s Association. Breens Road School took first place, and Weedons School second prize. The pupils at Breens Road had raised $lOOO to lay a paving area with bricks, said a competition organiser, .Mr Eric Johnson.

Third place went to the Rai Valley Area School, of Marlborough.
