Timber exports

PA ' Wellington Exports of sawn timber from New Zealand have exceeded 500.000 cu m for the third consecutive year, according to the Sawmillers' Federation. It said that the total export figure of 513,000 cu m for the year to December. 1981.-was the second highest total for a calendar year. The figure had been reached in spite of a world-wide timber depression, caused mainly bv a reduction in building activity in many countries. The value of timber exports in 1981 was $7B million, with Japan and Australia remaining New' Zealand's main markets. Radiata pine. New Zealand's main export timber, comprised 87 per cent of all timber exported, an increase of 5 per cent over the 1980 figure.
