Sixth man charged in shooting case
PA • Hastings A sixth central Hawke's Bay man has been charged in connection with the shooting of a boy. aged eight,’ at Patangata on Saturday night.. ’ Joseph Gerard .Vella, aged 26, a of Mangaorapa, appeared in the' District Court at Hastings, yesterday on charges of-beihg a member of an unlawful assembly and wounding-Leonard Taite with reckless'disregard: for the safety of others. Additional, charges were also laid yesterday against four 6f ; the (.'five central Hawke’s? Bay ' men who appeared in court on Mondaji on charges related ‘to the incident. ■
The five have each, been charged with -wounding Leonard Taite with reckless disregard for the safety of others as well as being members of “an unlawful assembly. Only one man on Monday had been charged with wounding Leonard Taite. The five men are Sonny Richard Thompson, aged 23, a shearer; Rangi Vincent Thompson, a shearer; Libya Walker, aged 23, unemployed; Toko-Patu, aged 27, a shearer: and Sonny Charlton Kaori Smith, aged 17, unemployed. All six men were remanded in custody, without plea, to March 24.
