Hairdressers to increase charges

It will cost between about 5 and 10 per cent more to visit a hairdresser after April 13. Senior hairdressers have been granted an 11.4 per cent increase in wages, while juniors will continue to receive a set proportion of the senior wage according to their status.

The date of registration of the new award rate is April 13. The president of the NewZealand Council of Ladies'

Hairdressers, Mrs Margaret Yates, said that the increase passed on to the customer would depend on whether salons had already passed on increases in stock and rentals.

If they had already passed on these increases then the customer would pay about 5 per cent more. If the previous increases had not been passed on. the customer could expect to face an increase of up to 10 per cent.
